I wanted to like the new Gatsby movie more than I did. The build-up to it was tremendous–the stunning trailers, the talented actors, the creative and well-respected director, the Jay-Z produced soundtrack featuring huge names in music today…Like Gatsby’s invention of himself for Daisy’s approval, everything about this film is built to impress us.
Though Luhrmann delivered the most entertaining Gatsby film to date, it did not reach the greatness I expected.
Following on Part I of my Gatsby mook (book + movie = mook) review, I saw the new Gatsby film, let it simmer in the media and my mind, and wrote Part II.
Read the rest of my thoughts on the new Gatsby directed by Baz Luhrmann over on the great Alyssa DiGirolamo’s blog, mookology.

I can’t wait to see this movie. I want to read the book again, first. I hate it when you read something and in the middle of reading it, you see a performance of it. The characters in your head are never the same as the ones that the actors portray. Once those personae get stuck in your head, it is hard to re-create the characters as your mind has imagined them.

reading the book again! 🙂 Sorry it wasn’t what you expected
but I’m sure they will remake it in another 20 years or so. Then you can go with your children and reflect on this post lol
